Essex Surgery Suspended Leaving Thousands Without a GP
Thousands of patients in Essex have been left without a GP after The Hollies Surgery in Hadleigh was suspended over serious safety concerns. The closure began on 31 October and affects around 12,800 people. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) issued the suspension to protect patients from harm.
The CQC suspended the registration of Dr Olusegun Olatokunbo Omosini on 30 October 2025. It said the action was necessary to prevent people from being exposed to significant risks at the practice. Inspectors discovered poor medicine management and a lack of effective safety systems.
Reasons Behind the Essex Surgery Suspended Order
The CQC had already issued warning notices in July 2025. Those notices addressed failures to manage medication and weak governance. However, after further inspections showed no improvement, regulators decided to act. As a result, the Essex surgery suspended order came into force to protect patients.
The Hollies Surgery website stated that staff were doing everything possible to restore services. In the meantime, patients have been advised to contact NHS 111 or local pharmacies for minor health concerns.

Response from Health Authorities
Mid and South Essex Integrated Care Board (ICB) acknowledged the frustration among patients. It confirmed that an interim team has started handling phone consultations and urgent inquiries. Officials said they are also working through a backlog of cases while planning a safe way forward.
William Guy, the ICB’s Director of Primary Care, said the situation remains complex. “We have faced several practical challenges that slowed progress, including difficulties accessing the building,” he said. “Further updates will appear on the GP practice website as soon as possible.”
The ICB asked patients not to register elsewhere while discussions continue. Authorities aim to restore medical services safely and as quickly as possible.
Patients Express Concern
Many patients say the suspension has left them struggling to access care. Long-time patient Jane Sales described the closure as deeply worrying. “People could be put in danger waiting for proper services to resume,” she said.
Another resident, Andrea Kirk, has been with the practice for seven years. She said the closure has left vulnerable patients without options. “Now we have no GP and nowhere to turn. No one to visit. Inevitably, it could cost lives,” she said.
Ongoing Uncertainty
The CQC has not confirmed when the suspension will end. Local health authorities continue to assess how to reopen the practice safely. Regulators say services will only resume once patient safety can be guaranteed.
The Essex surgery suspended order highlights broader challenges in maintaining safe and reliable GP services. As officials search for a solution, thousands of residents in Hadleigh remain without a regular doctor and hope for a swift resolution.
